Rare is the strictly positive fan-made movie that is good enough to cross the $1 million barrier in theatrical distribution. Is there a way to retain the quality and popularity of the original material while bursting at the seams with new, exciting ideas? Well, the good folks at DreamWorks Animation managed to obtain a copy of Ron Clements and John Musker’s 1989 animated classic,Tangled, and are planning to use it for a 2011 Disney feature, Tinker Bell. Clements and Musker — reteaming with Disney for the first time since the original 1992 film — have already signed on to direct the project. Clements will direct the movie, and the screenplay will be written by Craig Venter, co-founder and C.E.O. of Celera Genomics, who is also working on an upcoming documentary from the same company, Life in the Undergrowth. That project is also garnering new interest after being included on several “most anticipated” lists — including ours — of the best crowd-funded documentaries of all time. Fair shares of credit go to the animators, including former Disney vet Peter Lassally who provided the designs for the main characters, and Jack Snow, whose background art was added as backgrounds to the animated scenes. And yes, it has a very jovial, happy feel to it despite the fact that it’s a Disney movie. The movie is perfect for all ages, unlike the original.

While they’re on the road to find the handsome man of her dreams, the evil stepsisters torments Cinderella by serving the bumbling prince several no-good dresses. But when Cinderella attempts to get out of going through with the marriage, the prince consummates their relationship, preferring the virgin pauper over the conniving hussy. Will Cinderella finally meet her prince at the ball? Will her friends of the ball find a way to solve the problem of the pumpkin, and more importantly, how will Cinderella keep her word to the Fairy Godmother?
