Last year, the company that makes the popular Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Systems Inc., severed its relationship with a cracking outfit called the Creative Studio. To Adobe’s credit, the company has been cracking software for years, but the company decided to spend its time, effort and money cracking something that does not directly compete with its own products. By cracking other people’s software, Adobe Systems Inc. is able to supplement its own revenue without making its own software obsolete. And that’s a good thing for users of Adobe software.
Nice review but after upgrading to LR5.2 RC I think performance is better than with LR4. Works a bit faster than in LR4 and has less long delays than in LR5 on my Mac Pro with a quad-core CPU and 16GB RAM. Just tried quite a lot of tasks, e.g. working with layers, using the crop tool and adding a blur. I noticed in the past that when working with LR5, performance drops significantly when just adding a blur filter to a mask without doing anything else that could slow down the computer. Maybe the new LR6 performance boost is more efficient…

First and foremost, the new version is now 64 bit. No, I am not talking about the literal address space—a 32-bit address space is 4GB in size, starting at 0 and continuing in chunks of 2 billion bytes every 2GB. Lightroom 4 can be used on a 32-bit system. I was surprised to read that Adobe was actually working on a 64-bit Lightroom version as far back as January 2015, some one and a half years ago.

Just one thing to note: although newer versions of Lightroom and Corel’s Capture Pro (for Windows users) are of a similar age, Lightroom 5 is not backwards compatible with previous versions. The Shadows/Highlights command can be used to recover details that you’ve lost when performing the Basic or High Pass filter in Photoshop. The type of detail it can recover includes hairs, specks, and small details in clothing.
Where to Find Them: The History panel stores all the changes you’ve made so far in an image. You can also find buttons for tools like crop, straighten, and rotate on this panel, as well.
