Here’s a nifty tip. If you are editing the color of layers and layer masks in Photoshop, you can add a hidden “whites” layer underneath the ones that you have edited. Once you complete your edits, you can carefully duplicate the layer to produce an “undoable” layer mask. This will allow you to make adjustments in the case of a color or channel problem without affecting the original image. Of course, if you make your “whites” layer removable when you are finished editing, you can wash it away to get back to the original image, but the easiest thing to do is to create a hidden “whites” layer. Make sure to hide the “whites” layer when you are finished with your edits and, if necessary, be careful not to reveal it until it is exactly what you want.
