Today, we let you in on a secret. It’s been quite a while since we’ve talked about Photoshop. We took a few months to leave the tools you use, the way you work and your workflow behind, re-scope our user stories and make things more manageable. - Photoshop will continue to use the original RGBA matrix shading mode on supported legacy hardware. However, for best performance on graphics hardware that supports OpenGL or Metal API and software rendering, it will use the premium Blending Modes API in Sun System Graphics (SUNXG) mode for lightweight applications or rasterization mode for numerous clients.
- Adobe began transitioning from the legacy Axis Arrays API’s 2D and 3D rendering software rendering modes to the newer custom GLSL based API for IE. For desktop applications, this is the same API that was introduced in the Authoring 3D tools in Photoshop. As a result, it should offer better performance and support for PSD, HDR, and layers compatible assets. This means that existing PSD, PSDX, HDR, 〉⌍ and PSDx files will be able to be opened in Photoshop and view their content.
- Photoshop will continue to render to both the legacy Axis Arrays API and newer GPU type pixel formats that can be accessed through the photensher API.
- Photoshop will continue to support the Sampling Patterns API to access native sampling patterns that are provided by today’s GPU hardware, including the Extensible Graphics Processor (XGP) and modern embedded GPUs. This means that the next generation of Photoshop engine can now sample patterns on new and existing GPU hardware when rendering on the native APIs.
- Photoshop will continue to support the API Principle from the classic versioning of the Photoshop product showcased in this DCMobility demo , such as the ability to perform actions on the previously saved versions. The support for multiple, saved versions is also planned to land in a later release this year.

Discouraged File Format
Adobe Photoshop has long been associated with the iconic 16-bit image files. No matter what the resolution was, it was also common for Photoshop to save the files. In fact, the format was named File, A standard format for the technology and was popular throughout the 90s. A newer driver format, the PSD, which stands for Photoshop document, was introduced with Adobe Photoshop version 7, as an open file format. The PSD is a ZIP compressed, lossless format which is also the default format for the software and its other applications. The Adobe PSD is an excellent format for vector graphics.
Photoshop also includes powerful new content and image blending tools that are perfect for creating complex color and tonal transitions. These new blended selections can be used to add or remove objects and content from images, create solid brushes that can be used to replicate more precise selections, and apply action effects like wipes, fades and transparencies.
