It has been suggested that the transcription factor SATB1 may be associated with the development of leukocyte-related cancers including B-cell lymphomas.^[@R17]^ In this study, negative SATB-2 expression was associated negatively with the lymph node metastasis of 7 cm-sized tumors at the ratio of 26.6% to 65.3%. Therefore, we concluded that SATB-2 may be a marker of colorectal cancer which progresses to regional lymph nodes. The potential role of the SATB-2 gene might be partly reflected by the immune environment of the tumor, although further specific studies are needed.

A significant correlation was noted between SATB-2 expression or presence of lymph node metastasis and good prognosis in cases with negative SATB-2 expression or with no metastasis, according to multivariate analysis (P<0.001). It is possible that the immune response influenced by SATB-2 may define the good prognosis of colorectal cancer. In addition, the prognosis of patients with no lymph node metastasis was better than for patients with positive lymph node metastasis.
