Bear in mind, however, that this is a good concept in theory only, if the user plan to actually make use of the cover film. For example, if you place a cover film over a layer and you want to take it off, you must first remove the layer you wish to remove. Otherwise, you will inevitably lose the layer you are working on. Technically, you could create a cover film with a layer that has no fill or stroke, but there’s probably no reason to do that except for presenting layer that has no fill or stroke.
In photoshop, all new objects are added to the layers from the top. If you drag and drop those objects for the first time, they will all appear on a layer before the object you actually dropped. So in order to move the objects you don’t need to make a copy, you just need to select the objects that you don’t want to move and drag them to a new position. You can also use keyboard shortcuts, instead of using the mouse.
The only problem with most Photoshop books is that you have to commit to learning the complicated interface and learning curve. At the same time, every new tool requires a steep learning curve, and after using Photoshop for a while, you don’t remember exactly how it worked. And if you decide to go back, you’ll have to start from scratch instead of just reloading your prior knowledge.
