If the last minute of the review is to be taken seriously, however, my final comment concerns exports. The Lightroom “Export” dialogue box now displays more than just the Save As dialog. It gives you the option to Save As and Export the image in lower quality too. If you get too much work done with the previous Save As dialog and need to refresh your memory, you can use the new dialog box as it has all the other options available. Be warned, however, that if you happen to save the same file as a lower resolution and then import it later as a higher-resolution JPEG, you won’t see any difference in the quality. The Save As dialog box has an option to adjust JPEG compression, but again you cannot see much difference. I think that higher image resulations should be exported in TIFF format. This would preserve the optimal quality and give you lots of control over JPEG compression. I have reached this conclusion based on my own experience and from reviews I read. However, if you want to see the difference you can always choose 30% or even 100% in the Save As dialog box. It may not seem like much – 15% and 40% are certainly not noticeable – but if you are shooting high-resolution images, this can mean the difference between a crisp photo and a scratched-up one. While we are on the subject of file sizes, Lightroom saves consistently lower file sizes than Photoshop, even when exporting JPEGs from some RAW files. But getting the same quality is much, much easier with WordPress.
