The Open Hardware
The basic design of the Raspberry Pi model B is composed of an ARM11 CPU, a Broadcom BCM2835, a XMOS MPU-6000, and an SD card. These devices are generally available for less than $10 each. They can all be built using standard soldering techniques. Additionally, the XMOS chip has a GPIO and some digital I/O bus that can be accessed without a connector using a serial interface. The Raspberry Pi is a single-board computer based on a Broadcom BCM2835 CPU. It is fully compatible with the Raspberry Pi foundation’s build system and has GPIO (General-Purpose Input/Output) for interfacing to various sensors and other peripherals, and a microSD card slot for storage.
The BCM2835 can be programmed directly through an on-chip JTAG interface with an ARM Development Kit and GNU-ARM toolchain. It also has a powerful 700 MHz quad-core GPU for Open GL, OpenVG, OpenMAX, OpenAL, OpenSL and OpenAL Soft development.

Microsoft.NET Gadgeteer was developed at Microsoft Research. Development Environment
The Microsoft.NET Gadgeteer Developer Studio allows for the development of custom gadget applications. It is a visual programming environment for C#.NET that includes a set of tools for device abstraction layer development, including an RTU driver developer for Windows Embedded CE.
Device Interfaces
Microsoft.NET Gadgeteer includes built-in interfaces to make it easy to access device resources, such as an attached keyboard, mouse, or display. The RTU driver developer tool can generate a standard RTU driver as well as a new RTU driver.
