Yes, I understand the iPad Pro is meant to be used in landscape mode, but that just leaves 35% of the screen unused. This leaves less real estate to work with than I would like. The iPad Pro also leaves out the onscreen keyboard. So you have to resort to the hardware one, which is slower and less accurate than software keyboards. Of course, Photoshop Sketch and the Pencil are more than capable of functioning perfectly well on the iPad Pro. In fact, I would argue that they are better suited to the platform. It is the Photoshop and the drawing app that belong on an iPad, not the other way around.
But there is one not-so-small issue with Photoshop Sketch: It is a real drag to work with. Photoshop Sketch and Photoshop are very different tools and it will take some time for you to become proficient with the new app. Especially if you grew up with Photoshop. Yes, Adobe has done away with the larger touchscreen in its CS6, but the limitations remain the same. For some design or retouching jobs, a 2-inch screen simply does not capture the true artistic intent. This is where the new iPad Pro can prove helpful. It allows you to shift into full-screen mode and get right in there. To scale in real life, just double tap the screen or pinch to zoom. But remember, you have no tools back here. Things are very simple in an iBooks app or Spotify. Any virtual magnifier is of no use here. In Photoshop, you can use the Cursor tool to move around to the desired position and edit your artwork directly. For coloring, spot healing, normal brushes, you can use a few of the new Artistic features that Photoshop Sketch provides. Yes, it is a good tool, but don’t expect it to replicate the full experience of a professional artist or designer. If you have become accustomed to the old, classic desktop experience of Photoshop, this will be a difficult transition.
The Clone Stamp Tool allows you to remove wrinkles, tears, scratches, shadow, etc from your photo. The most important thing to know is you can also apply the fastest Clone Stamp just to the area of your image you want – so you won’t have to paint over the area of your image you don’t need to fix.
