the soundtrack in silent hill 2 is again composed by akira yamaoka. the soundtrack, in particular, focuses on giving the player a more powerful and varied experience. many artists from the first game are featured, such as satomi tsuruoka and yasunori mitsuda. yamaoka, however, was known for his work on the soundtrack for the original silent hill and another silent hill game, silent hill 3. on the other hand, the strong presence of electric guitars in the soundtrack was a change from the game’s more traditional, piano-based score.

silent hill 2 hd was a port of the ps3 version of silent hill 2 with enhanced graphics and visual effects for hdtvs and high definition displays. this was the very last silent hill game released on ps3 to date. in the sacred forest, james finds laura, who has been searching for the road of revenants. laura reveals that the road of revenants was built by mary, but james thinks it’s just another legend like the pyramid. the two decide to explore the forest together. they find an old abandoned mill, and then a group of old ghosts appear and challenge them to a fight, but james and laura avoid the ghosts by jumping into the van that laura came in. when they reach the road of revenants, laura mentions that mary is here. laura claims that she will contact mary and let her know they’ve finally found her, but james decides to go after mary himself, hoping to bring her out of whatever psychological state she’s in. james follows mary to a place known as the labyrinth, but mary falls through and disappears into the ground, and james is unable to go after her. before he can move away, the floor collapses with him under it, and he crashes into the netherworld. james awakens in an underground cavern, where he discovers the truth of the timeline. he then travels to a computer station in tokyo and visits mondo williams, who also learns that the order was created by mary. james also learns that mary was trying to create a world where no one would be psychologically disturbed, and mary herself was disturbed by her husband’s death and wanted to be “healed.” in tokyo, james tells camilla about the timeline and that laura is the messenger. he also tells her that laura is not “the next of kin.” this is the first time in the series where the player does not control james’ journey, but instead waits for james to begin, much like playing a video game. after james’ story and the end of the credits, the player visits laura in her apartment, where she finally tells james that she was “the next of kin,” and she explains that her role was to keep laura safe and that it was her responsibility to catch her. 5ec8ef588b
