The problem is not for Internet Explorer, but for Firefox. When you open a message from Thunderbird, it is automatically set to your system default browser charset. IE was designed with this functionality in mind, so the problem is not with IE but with Mozilla’s Webmail.

StickyCharset is a tool to keep the original charset of messages you send.
It checks the original charset of the message(s) and keeps the charset if it matches the one you sent.
This is useful if you send a message that has an erroneous charset and you want to keep your original charset and keep the message readable.
